Getting a new garage door is a worthwhile investment. You may have just built a whole new house, or replaced an old garage door with a new one. Either way, it’s important to know how to look after your garage door so it’s in optimal condition. So here are some of our maintenance tips.

Keep them clean

Just like any other moving part, garage roller doors need to be kept clean to be maintained at their optimal working condition. Old oil can build up and harden in the roller tracks, and dirt, dust and leaves can cause jams. Spray a solvent such as WD-40 in the rollers and tracks, then wipe clean.

Weather stripping

Check the weather stripping or seal along the bottom and sides of the door. If it is worn out or cracked, have it replaced. It’s important to keep the elements out of your garage. This will ensure the longevity of both your garage door, and everything contained in your garage!

Panels

Monitor the panels of the door itself. For metal panels, keep an eye out for rust, especially towards the bottom and sides where the metal is most likely to come in contact with water. For wooden panels, look for splitting or rotting wood.
